UNIT OVERVIEW/VISION....
The Panther Battalion is now in its 24th year and is just over 150 cadets strong. The unit is mentored by U.S. Army (Ret) Major Wilford Blowe, Senior Army Instructor, Master Sergeant (Ret) Karl Velez and Sergeant First Class (Ret) Kim Prout, Army Instructors.
The unit had its inaugural opening in August 1994 under now deceased Principal, Mr. Otto Taylor Jr., who had the foresight to petition the Army for the first Army JROTC program in the Chattanooga Public School System. This system later merged with the Hamilton County Department of Education in 1999.
The overall scope and VISION of our JROTC program is to prepare and mold cadets in life-long learning strategies. In accomplishing this, cadets are mentored in skills & techniques which promote a positive self-image while encouraging them to be productive citizens for the future! While cadets are more prepared to serve in the military than those who may not have taken JROTC, our overall intent is not to prepare them for the military but "to motivate them to be better citizens".....
